Hello friends, and welcome to a very fun post with a free block pattern!
Echo Trail came from simply playing around with shapes. No plan going in, just moving pieces around, testing combinations, and seeing what felt balanced. This is the version that stuck.

Echo Trail is made using a combination of:
-half square triangles
-straight piecing
-a few smaller accent units
Nothing overly fussy, just thoughtful construction that builds the overall design.

The fabrics I used are from the Le Petit Escargot collection by Lori Woods for Poppie Cotton. It's a soft, playful mix of florals, subtle patterns, and small novelty prints (including the sweetest little snails). The colors lean gentle and slightly muted, which works really well for a block like this that relies on contrast without feeling harsh.

AND- can we talk about those fun, small corner squares?? They were the perfect opportunity to highlight some of the novelty scenes from the "snail mail" prints. It comes in three different color-ways; white, blue, and multi. I love them all!
This block will look completely different depending on your fabric choices.
Try:
-high contrast for a bold look
-softer tones for something more subtle
-a mix of both to highlight the movement in the design

If you make one, I'd love to see it! Be sure to tag me on Instagram @Nighthawk_Quilting and use # echotrailquiltblock so I can see your beautiful work!
